Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1# 640 - Brand New Day, One Moment in Time, Chapter 3: Something Borrowed

In the hospital, the doctor explains to Peter that Aunt May is making a full recovery and that the love he’s shown for her could be what saved her life, especially since there was nothing they could do to help her. That night, while Peter and Mary-Jane are sleeping beside Aunt May, a nurse alerts the Kingpin from jail about Aunt May’s condition. He makes a call to an unknown hit-man. Aunt Anna calls Mary-Jane from the hospital and alerts her about a noise she heard from outside. Mary-Jane decides to go despite her aunt’s insistence that she stay put. She arrives and discovers that someone has broken in. From Aunt Anna’s bedroom she can hear the hit-man talking to an unconscious Anna about how he has to kill her in order to pay off his debt to the Kingpin and blames her situation on her niece for being involved with Spider-Man. At the last minute, Mary-Jane hits him over the head with a vase and makes a run for it. She attempts to call Peter but her battery is dead. She runs into a neighbor’s yard where she is bitten in the leg by their dog. The hit-man catches up to her but is attacked by another dog. Aunt Anna calls Peter and alerts him about her situation. He asks a nearby doctor to watch after his aunt and heads off to help Mary-Jane. As Mary-Jane continues to run, the hit-man tells her that when he’s done with her and her aunt, he’s going after her sister Gayle, her kids, and her cousin Kristy. Mary-Jane trips and begs him to kill her and leave the rest of her family alone. He refuses and hits her on the head his gun, knocking her unconscious. Spider-Man comes to her rescue just in time and discovers that the hit-man is Eddie. This incident teaches Peter that the Kingpin isn’t the only one who will target his family now that every villain he’s ever put behind bars knows his identity. He goes to Doctor Strange to heal Mary-Jane and asks him to make the world forget he’s Spider-Man. He decides to think about it and goes to the Astral Plane to discuss it with Tony Stark and Reed Richards, who are both in a way responsible for his predicament.
